Diabetes in the Australian community & workplace

366 Million people worldwide have diabetes (WHO 2011) and the International Diabetes Federation expects this to soar to 552 Million by 2030 (equating to three new cases every 10 seconds!).

In Australia, one in every twelve adults has diabetes and it is becoming increasingly common. The number of Australian’s with diabetes has increased three‚Äźfold over the last 20 years and it is expected that there will be more than 2 million Australians with diabetes by 20201.

Diabetes is largely a preventable disease impacted by lifestyle. If you are obese, you are four times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than someone within the healthy weight range2. Much of the Australian community and workforce are inadvertently leading lifestyles which put them at significant risk of developing preventable diabetes.
